Yureni Noshika, a versatile talent in the Sri Lankan entertainment industry, has not only left a mark in films but has also achieved remarkable success in the world of television. From her breakout role in the hit TV series “Kindurangana” to her acclaimed performance in “Koombiyo,” Yureni’s television journey is a testament to her exceptional acting skills and ability to connect with audiences. Let’s delve into the television success that has made her a household name across the country.
A Breakthrough in “Kindurangana”: In 2007, Yureni Noshika got her first big break in the television industry with “Kindurangana,” a remake of the popular Hindi TV series “Kasam Se.” The show, produced as a joint venture between Balaji Telefilms India and Maharaja Organization India, centered around three sisters raised by a single father and their journey through life after their father’s passing. Yureni was cast as one of the three sisters, and her portrayal of the character “Sanju” quickly won the hearts of the audience.
“Kindurangana” became the first-ever soap opera series produced in Sri Lanka and became an instant hit. The show garnered immense popularity, becoming the most-watched TV series of its time and earning the top spot as the number one TV show. Yureni’s popularity soared as “Sanju,” and she became an overnight star.
Challenges and Growth: With such rapid fame at a young age, Yureni faced challenges typical of emerging stars. Rumors about her being difficult to work with and having a diva-like attitude began to spread in the industry. As the original Indian team working on “Kindurangana” left, Yureni found herself facing a transition as the Sri Lankan team took over. Unfortunately, the show’s dynamics shifted, and she had to leave the series after working on it for two years.
Yureni took a one-year break and ventured to India to explore opportunities in Bollywood. Although her stint in India didn’t yield major breakthroughs, she returned to Sri Lanka determined to continue her acting journey.
Rising to Stardom with “Koombiyo”: Despite the initial setbacks, Yureni continued to pursue acting in Sri Lanka and appeared in several TV series, including “Pingala Danawwa,” “Sanda Saakki Sihina Sinderella,” “Piyavi,” and “Ayal.” However, her biggest breakthrough came in 2017 with the series “Koombiyo.”
In “Koombiyo,” Yureni portrayed the character Hiruni, a role that showcased her exceptional acting skills. The show quickly gained massive popularity across the country, and Yureni’s performance was widely praised. Her portrayal of Hiruni earned her numerous accolades, including the State Awards for Best Actress in a Supporting Role and the Most Popular Actress award at the Derana Film Festival in 2018. Additionally, she received the Special Jury Award at the Sumathi Tele Awards.
“Koombiyo” marked a turning point in Yureni’s television career, elevating her status among her contemporaries and solidifying her position as one of Sri Lanka’s most talented actresses.
